9 Days Turkana Truck Via Chalbi Desert

This trip takes you to the most remote parts of Kenya and through some of the worst roads in Africa.

DAY 1

Depart Nairobi through the Great Rift Valley floor to Lake Baringo which is one of the Rift valley lakes. 
Take a boat excursion in the afternoon with dinner and overnight at the Roberts campsite.

DAY 2

Early morning guided walk to the cliffs for bird watching and later drive to maralal which is part and parcel of the samburu country.  Dinner and overnight stay at yare campsite

DAY 3

Long drive from Maralal via Barigoi and South Horr to Loiyangalani (L. Turkana) one of the most scenic routes with dinner and a cool overnight stay at the Elmolo Campsite.

DAY 4

Spend the day exploring the Loiyangalani settlement and have the opportunity to interact with the Turkana, Elmolo, Rendile, and Samburu tribes.

DAY 5

Depart Loiyagalani after breakfast and head north then South East through North Horr to Kalacha a small Gabra settlement for overnight stay at AIC campsite.

DAY 6

Drive further south through the Chalbi Desert to Marsabit a volcanic forested area where we go on a guided tour of the town and visit a volcanic crater.  Dinner and overnight at a budget Hotel/Campsite

DAY 7

Join the Trans African highway south to Samburu National Reserve to arrive on time for lunch and with the late afternoon game drive you are likely to see animals including Lions, Elephants, Oryx, Grevys zebra, Reticulated Giraffe etc. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite next to Ewaso Nyiro river.

DAY 8

Spend the day exploring Samburu National Reserve with an early morning and a late afternoon game drive with dinner and overnight stay at the campsite next to Ewaso Nyiro River.

DAY 9

Early morning breakfast and drive through Isiolo and Mount Kenya region to arrive in Nairobi shortly before sunset. 

Nairobi – Turkana - Lake Nakuru – Samburu via Chalbi Desert – Nairobi.

10 Days

This trip takes you to the most remote parts of Kenya and through some of the worst roads in Africa.

Day 1

Depart Nairobi through the Great Rift Valley floor seeing Lakes Naivasha and Elementaita as you drive arriving in Nakuru for a sumptuous Lunch. Set up the camp or settle at a budget hotel and proceed on a game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park. 

DAY 2

After breakfast depart for Lake Baringo arriving on time for lunch and in the afternoon have a boat excursion on the Lake where you will see Hippos, Crocodiles and lots of Birds.

DAY 3

Early morning guided walk to the cliffs for bird watching and later drive to Maralal which is part and parcel of the Samburu country with dinner and overnight stay at yare campsite.

DAY 4

Long drive from Maralal via Barigoi and South Horr to Loiyangalani (L. Turkana) one of the most scenic routes with dinner and a cool overnight stay at the Elmolo Campsite.

DAY 5

Spend the day exploring the Loiyangalani settlement and have the grand opportunity to interact with the Turkana, Elmolo, Rendille and Samburu tribes.

DAY 6

DAY 9

Spend the day exploring Samburu National Reserve with an early morning and a late afternoon game drive with dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 10

Early morning breakfast and drive through Isiolo and the Mount Kenya region to arrive in Nairobi shortly before sunset. 

Turkana Special

 “Koobi For A Sibiloi” 11 Days

This rugged 1800 km expedition in a purposely-built four-wheel drive truck takes you up into the inner-core of the Northern Frontier District.  You will traverse through the worst roads on the African Continent, sight-see beautiful mountain forests enclosed on all sides by hot dusty deserts, finally arriving at the Jade Sea (Lake Turkana). You will sample various tribes across the Chalbi Desert if dry and during the rains Jade Sea becomes an enormous shallow lake.  This safari takes you to the most remote sections of Africa and gives you a chance to sample the cultural diversity of Kenya.

Day 1

Depart Nairobi via the stunning Great Rift Valley floor to Lake Baringo which is one of the Rift Valley lakes.  Take a boat excursion in the afternoon with dinner and overnight stay at the Roberts campsite.

Day 2

Early morning breakfast and thereafter undertake a guided walk to the cliffs for bird watching and later drive to Maralal which is part and parcel of the Samburu country with dinner and overnight at yare campsite.

Day 3

Day 5

Drive further North to Sibiloi Park and the Koobi fora Researchers Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6

Spend the day visiting the prehistoric sites at Koobi Fora including the Elephant site, Turtle site, Petrified Forest and the Koobi Fora Museum with dinner and overnight stay at Koobi Fora.

Day 7

Drive South via North Horr to Kalacha a small Gabra settlement with dinner and overnight stay at A. I. C campsite.

Day 8

Drive further south via the Chalbi Desert to Marsabit a volcanic forested area where you go on a guided tour of the town and visit a volcanic crater with dinner and overnight stay at a budget Hotel.

Day 9

Join the Trans African highway South to Samburu National Reserve to arrive on time for lunch and a late afternoon game drive which you may see animals including Lions, Elephants, Oryx, Grevy zebra, Giraffe etc with dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 10

Spend the day exploring Samburu National reserve with an early morning and a late afternoon game drive with dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.

Day 11

Early morning breakfast and drive through Isiolo and the Mount Kenya region to arrive in Nairobi later in the afternoon.
